“I Want It That Way” is a tune by American boy band the Backstreet Boys. It was delivered on April 12, 1999, as the lead single from their third studio collection, Millennium. It was written by Max Martin and Andreas Carlsson, while Martin and Kristian Lundin created it. The pop ditty discusses a relationship strained by issues of emotional or physical distance.

Critically, the tune was met with positive reception, with numerous critics commending its catchiness, additionally calling it the pop melody of the year. The melody was nominated for three Grammy Grants, including Tune and Record of the Year, and has been included in lists by Blender, MTV, Rolling Stone and VH1.

“I Want It That Way” is the Backstreet Boys’ signature tune, and commercially it arrived at the main spot in more than 25 countries,[2] including Austria, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. In the United States, the tune crested at number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 graph for eight non-consecutive weeks, while it bested the Grown-up and Top 40 Mainstream diagrams.
